    Fishing in Sunriver Oregon

Whether your a seasoned fly-fisherman or just learning to bait your hook, Deschutes National Forest and the Sunriver area is the home to some of the finest fishing in the world.
With so many lakes, rivers and streams available, the question won’t be “will I catch something?”, it’ll be “what do I want to catch and how.” With so many angling choices available in the Sunriver area, we at Blue Pacific Vacation Rentals have put together this list of Central Oregon fishing resources and area fishing reports.

One of the best places to get most of the information you’ll be needing about fishing in the Deschutes National Forest is on their website with the US Forest Service. Here you can get a great overview to many of the most popular lakes and rivers in the area. Each link will take you to more detailed info on the lake or river including what type of fish to expect, accessibility and even what tackle or bait to use and what hatch is best. They really are quite detailed. Check out the page for Devils Lake.

Another great resource is the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife – Besides the being able to download the 2011 Oregon Fishing Regulations and buying your licenses online – Here you can find Fishing Reports, including info on regulation changes, current hatches and accessibility. Check out the Central Oregon Fishing update here.

Once you’ve picked some spots or at least have narrowed down a few areas, then try out the forums on Oregon Fishing Forums. Here you can browse the area fisheries to find out where the action is. Most lakes/rivers have their own thread.

Finally, if you decide you want to go with a fully guided fishing adventure. We at Blue Pacific Vacation Rentals recommend you try the following:

Now, once you’ve brought home dinner, just remember all of our Sunriver Vacation Rentals feature complete kitchens stocked with the latest in appliances, or you could do what we love and just grill ‘em up or try the recipe below.

Pan Fried Mountain Trout With Pecan Brown Butter
    4 fillets mountain trout
Salt and fresh ground pepper to taste
½ cup unbleached flour for dusting
    3 tbsp butter, cubed
    ½ cup coarsely chopped pecans
    Juice of 1 lemon

    1. Season the trout with salt and pepper. And lightly dust with flour, shaking off the excess.

    2. In a large skillet, heat up 1 tbsp of butter. When the butter starts to foam, add in the trout. Cook for 5 to 7 minutes, skin side up. Flip and cook the same amount of time. Set aside.

    3. Add remaining butter and heat until it foams. Remove from heat and add pecans and lemon juice and swirl around the pan. Immediately pour the sauce over the fish and serve.

    July 8, 2011: Trashy Treasures!

Description: As the saying goes, “One person’s trash is another’s treasure.” In this one-day camp, you will bring in recyclable materials and create different art projects while learning about the art the animals produce here at the Aquarium! Yep, you read correctly, animals can create art!

July 15, 2011: All Creatures Great and Small

Description: As Horton the Elephant, from Dr. Seuss, put it, “even though you can’t see or hear them at all, a person’s a person, no matter how small." Well, in this case, we are talking about other living things: big ones, medium ones, and small ones. In this one-day camp join us as we explore the importance of different living things and the role they play in keeping the planet healthy.

    July 22, 2011: Shark Central

Description: They have been called man-eaters and monsters. In this one-day program campers will explore the life and mystery of the greatest predators of the sea.

August 12, 2011: The Science of Senses

Description: In this one-day camp, campers will explore not only their own senses but those of different marine creatures. Did you know that a shark can smell one drop of blood in an entire Olympic sized swimming pool? Adaptations help us and other living things survive.

August 19, 2011: Deep Sea Discovery

Description: Imagine life without light, warmth or sound. Dive with us into the cold, dark depths of the ocean to discover deep sea life.

August 26, 2011: A Whale in the Goldfish Bowl?

Description: Who doesn’t love a home aquarium filled with saltwater fish in dazzling colors? But how many of you really know where these animals come from? Sometimes trying to keep these wild animals as pets makes about as much sense as keeping a whale in a goldfish bowl. This program looks at the challenges presented by exotic animal ownership, particularly as it relates to aquatic mammals, birds and fish.

Depoe Bay Oregon is a great place to Vacation

Depoe Bay got some recent coverage in Coast Explorer Magazine…you can read the article here.

Watch the waves, spot whales, visit the art galleries and check out the world’s smallest navigable harbor. Depoe Bay is a little town with some big attractions and some notable splurges for those interested in scenery or indulgence.

There’s plenty to see and do on a winter’s day in Depoe Bay, the world’s smallest navigable harbor and a popular stop along the Oregon coast. Check out the natural areas and wayside attractions like the famous Spouting Horns, where sea water, pushed by the waves through lava beds, can shoot some 60 feet into the air, sometimes dousing passersby. Stroll along the seawall or browse in the local shops and galleries where you can find a memento from your trip including fine art, gifts and candy. Find a cozy spot in a café or diner for a little taste of Depoe Bay or stop off at the Whale Watch Park for a picnic. The Depoe Bay Whale Center, home to the Whale Watching Spoken Here program, is a great place to learn about some of the area’s most famous residents: a pod of gray whales who feed in the bay. You can charter a tour boat for a closer look at the marine life in and around Depoe Bay or a fishing boat to try your luck at ling cod, salmon, halibut, albacore or Dungeness crab when the season’s right. Watch from the bridge early in the morning or later in the afternoon as fishing boats navigate the 50-foot wide channel connecting the harbor to the sea.
